EpiFor @ ESOF 2010 June 22, 2010

EpiFor team will contribute to ESOF 2010, the Euroscience Open Forum that will be held in Torino, Italy, July 2 - 7, 2010.
ESOF is the biennial pan-European meeting dedicated to scientific research and innovation, created by Euroscience. ESOF takes place every two years, in a major European city, and presents breakthroughs in disciplines as varied as mathematics, music, geography, genetics etc. through a range of different formats including lectures, workshops etc.

ESOF presents and discusses the frontiers of scientific and technological research in Europe, contributes to the development of a European Scientific Identity together with bridging the gap between science and society and stimulates policies to support scientific research.

EpiFor contributes to ESOF with a session organized by Vittoria Colizza and Alessandro Vespignani, that will take place on Sunday, July 4:

The dynamics of epidemics: How human mobility affects patterns
Room 2 h.10:30

The session will include the oral presentations of three invited speakers:

Alain Barrat (Centre de Physique Theorique, Marseille, France),
Sociopatterns.org: dynamics of face-to-face human proximity

Dirk Brockmann (Northwestern University, USA),
Feel sick? Follow the money!

Marta Gonzalez (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA),
From human mobility to transportation networks

How much do we know about human mobility? Can we use the information about the human interaction to predict the dynamics of emergent infectious diseases?
This session will bring together the major experts in the field of human contact patterns and mobility of individuals at different scales: they will show and discuss which is the role of human mobility in shaping the epidemic patterns.
